Eels - Dead Of Winter, Electro-Shock Blues

Dead Of Winter is not a happy song. And yet… there’s something uplifting, and cathartic, in the midst of all the melancholy and the sadness. It’s a song about losing someone you love to cancer, a horrible, vile thing; but there’s a strange beauty to the song, and it’s a testament to E’s skill as a songwriter.

Not an easy song to listen to: but a very, very rewarding one.

Thought that i’d forget all about the past,
But it doesn’t let me run too fast.
And I just wanna stand outside
And know that this is right;
And this is true
And I will not,
Fade into
Fade into the night.
